I attended an absolutely fabulous block seminar on Creative Writing in English that was on offer at our local university. Our teacher taught (literary) creative writing in England for ten years (University level, not just the usual painting-by-numbers affair on how to build marketable plots), but now she's here, in our town, and I hope there will be more workshops forthcoming.
She covered a lot of ground - and got us writing all week. We met every day from 10-5 pm, with a one hour lunch break, and now I have locations, character sketches, short scenes, and vignettes as well as several first drafts for poems. Yay!
She is NOT a nerd but was very inclusive. So there was some friction that never turned into aggression, but that made things more invigorating.
Incidentally, I wrote a very pro-Nerd poem, which I may share in a few days, once I've given it a bit of a polish.
Now I am ab-so-lute-ly knackered. Happy, but knackered.
Do you have a favourite workshop/writing course anecdote you'd like to share? Or a recommendation?
